The term "Data Science" has been around longer than you might think. Gil Press has researched the evolution of the use of the term, from the first definition by Peter Naur in 1974, to Bill Cleveland's 2001 paper, and Drew Conway's "Data Science Venn Diagram", introduced in 2010.
