Amazon has just announced that users of Amazon Web Services can now access a number of large, public data sets from applications in the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). The data sets are available free of charge ... but the catch is that you need to subscribe to AWS and pay the usual associated compute fees. Nonetheless, the datasets are large and interesting, ranging from the human genome data to census data and chemistry data. (Some of the data sets aren't yet available but are coming soon, and Amazon promises others will be added soon.)
