The forthcoming integration between SAS/IML Studio, which had previously been reported in several unofficial forums, is now official. The integration has now been announced in a SAS press release and scheduled for "summer 2009".
According to the release, the integration will enable "users to submit R code from within the SAS environment" (presumably, from within IML), and cryptically will have SAS "experimenting with some new methods not yet implemented in SAS" but available in R.
Clearly, SAS recognizes that R is here to stay.
