The New York Times profiles today the two teams at the center of the nail-biting conclusion of the Netflix prize. Both teams ended in a virtual dead head, and now the process begins to verify the ultimate winner:
The Web leader board ... is based on what the teams submit. Next, Netflix’s in-house researchers and outside experts have to validate the teams’ submissions, poring over the submitted code, design documents and other materials. “This is really complex stuff.”
According to the rules, the winners must share their methods not only with Netflix but the public, too. I'm looking forward to see what they came up with.
Update 11:10AM: The Pragmatic Theory blog (from a member of the BellKor coalition) reports on the final 24 hours. They seem confident on an eventual win, based on feedback from Netflix.
