The Wall Street Journal's Numbers Guy has taken an in-depth look (in both his blog and print column) at the Bulgarian Lottery coincidence we looked at last week. I was interviewed by the author Carl Bialik yesterday, and we talked lotteries, probabilities, coincidences and R. Sadly, no mention of R made it into the final article. It's still a good read, though.

A glitch did occur here in Tennessee when players got suspicious that the daily Cash3 and Cash4 games were producing numbers "without replacement". A colleague was asked to look at a history of numbers chosen, and I got to tag along with him to interview the top lottery officials and witness their computers draw the numbers. Here's the story:
