There have been a number of new additions to the Local R User Group Directory recently, with a lot of new user groups being formed.
There's a new user group in Northern Germany, "R im Norden". According to organizer Rainer Feldmann, "the objective of this group is to establish a local forum for R users - beginner to advanced. You can meet with other users of the R Programming Language and learn and share tricks and techniques from and with other users." For more information about the group, send a short mail indicating your interests to Rainer Feldmann.
Staying in Germany, another user group is forming on the Southwest region: R User Group DE-Südwest. Meetings will be in Mannheim or Heidelberg, and perhaps also Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, or (later) Frankfurt. Follow the link for more information.
The first R user meeting in Spain will be held in Murcia from 26-27 November. For more information, see this website: I Conferencia R-Project Hispana.
There have also been expressions of interest for a user-group in Berlin (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Dublin (Ireland). To announce or suggest other groups, add a comment to the User Group Directory page.
Finally, the inaugural meeting of the Washington, DC area R user's group will take place in just over a week, on October 20. Szilard Pafka, Chief Scientist at Epoch, will give a keynote presentation on using R for Predictive Analytics, and I will give a talk on the new debugging capabilities of REvolution R Enterprise 3.0. There will also be a series of short (10-minute) "lightning" talks -- if you want to give one of these informal talks on any R-related topic please note your topic when you sign up. (The meeting is being held in conjunction with Predictive Analytics World, but you don't need to register for that conference to attend the User Group meeting. You do get to enjoy the free refreshments at the reception beforehand, though!)
