Nate Silver participated in a Reddit AMA ("Ask Me Anything") session today. Among the many topics covered in the two hours he was online yesterday: the underappreciated dangers of overfitting, the software he uses to analyze data, and why college football's BCS should be replaced with with playoffs.
Nate Silver is the statistician beyond the New York Times' FiveThirtyEight blog and the author of The Signal and The Noise (a great general-interest book on the science of prediction). Last year I wrote about the predictive techniques Nate Silver used to successfully forecast the outcome of the 2012 presidential election in the US.
