We have massively increased our use of R through John Foxes GUI package known as R Commander (R with training wheels) we have managed to install on all student computers across all our four campuses at Deakin University in Victoria Australia R with R Commander. When a student starts up R automatically R Commander starts up. Our students are not considered to be high scorers in academic testing but yet we now have 98% of our students taking to R.
We also have audio visual files that help our students master R at a basic level its only a start, but it seems to be working. R commander is indeed R with training wheels. Thanks so much to all you wonderful people that have and still doing marvelous work on R and the packages.
