In just four days, the New Horizons probe will finally reach (and fly by) Pluto, and for the first time in more than 25 years give us detailed images of a brand new planet. (Well, dwarf planet.) I've been excited about this mission for years, and can't wait to see what's out there. Low-resolution images already suggest that Pluto isn't the icy ball we thought it was, and once again the textbooks will have to be rewritten.
The NYT has a great mini-documentary on the mission which is well worth 15 minutes on your time, to learn about the background of the mission and what we might learn.
July 14 can't come soon enough! In the meantime, enjoy your weekend, and we'll be back on Monday.
