Portal is one of my favourite video games of all time. When it was released in 2007, it was a real breath of fresh air: a brand-new gameplay mechanic (you create pairs of portals at walls, and the player can jump in one and out the other), fun physics-based puzzles (which often had you catapulting through a portal to a distant ledge), and a thoroughly entertaining story with one of the best AI characters in gaming history (and not a bad singer, either). If you somehow missed the Portal phenomenon, this Honest Trailer will bring you up to speed.
I'm a big Portal fan — I have the plush companion cube and the Portal coasters — but clearly nowhere near the level of this 13-year-old boy who asked his Dad to decorate his bedroom in a Portal theme. And boy, did Dad deliver! Using only off-the-shelf furniture and lighting and a smattering of Portal-themed decorations from ThinkGeek, Dad created an sleeping space which would look right at home in GladOs's test facility. Bravo, Dad!
That's all for this week. I'm traveling in Europe for the next couple of weeks, but meet us back here on Monday when our roster of bloggers will be keeping you up to date with the latest R news. I'll pop in from time to time myself as well. Have a great weekend!
