This stunning short film Infinitude by Scott Portingale depicts the formation of the universe and the evolution of the Solar System in five minutes (via Gizmodo):
The incredible thing about this film is that it was created without any use of computer-generated imagery. (The mantra for the production was: "no introduced pixels".) Filmed frame-by-frame over the course of a year with a digital SLR camera, it uses models, slow motion time-lapse, and long-exposure lighting effects to create the visuals. Other than the DSLR, this is about the same level of technology available to Stanley Kubrick for 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968, and this production is just as stunning. Be sure to check out the making-of featurettes to see how the visuals were created.
That's all from us here at the blog for this week. Monday's a holiday for us, so we'll see you back here on Tuesday. Have a great long weekend!
